Demos

Close to You:  This was the first song I ever wrote on guitar, though this is by no means the first version of it.  After several  attempts to rewrite I finally had a breakthrough in 2012 with a whole new melody and lyrics.  That is what you hear today.

Oubliette:  This song has also gone through several phases to reach its current state.  The piano has been the most consistent, but the chorus refused to match for a long time.

Moment: This quiet, pensive piece came one winter evening in my teens, thinking of the romances of TV and my future that would one day come to an end, and dealing with endings, and finding peace with the concept.

Poetry: Poetry happens at 6 in the morning when you are accustomed to sleeping until 10.  It comes in the black of the night, and takes over your mind, and doesn’t let you sleep until is has been written down, and at least, partially recorded on the keyboard for later.

Shadow:  Shadow comes from the darker teenage years when everything turns out to be not as bright and cheery as it was as a child.  It is dreamy, and depressing, but overall hopeful for the future.

Open Road: I didn’t think I had a very interesting life until I went to write the origins of this song: I was traveling through Spain on the road to Andorra, shooting photos through the window, and penned the lyrics and part of the harmony right there in my seat.

Lullaby:  Here’s another quiet one I wrote a few years ago.  Not what one might expect from the after dinner satisfaction of being fed but contentment is a beautiful thing.

Nightmare: This is one of the first songs I wrote that I still can stand to listen to on occasion.  It comes from a place of deep anxiety and fear of my own agency in my early (and possibly later) teen years.
