Progress!!! It’s happening! I have reorganized my todo list (again) and this new prioritization (and possibly the new dining room table and added space) seems to have done the trick. I have now set up a line of proverbial buckets of all the steps a song needs to go through in order to be heard through your speakers— not to say I didn’t have a well thought out line of buckets before. I did. Several itterations. …but after months of very little movement it was clear that the well-meaning suggestion of take one thing and finish it, then move on to the next one just wasn’t working for me. ^.^ (Sorry Gerry. I tried…)
But Katrina, why are you spending money on a dining room table when that could go toward studio time where you could no longer complain about subpar conditions?!? — The table was free. As was the larger, now very broken one, that it replaced, and rather unexpectedly I might add.
This whole year has been about redefining process and progress: taking things more incrementally and less all at once. Naturally people have been telling me to do this since… I can remember. But I’m stubborn and already know everything obviously so I didn’t listen. >.> Aaaand, well okay yes you’re right. Small, regular steps. A little bit each day. Breathe, enjoy the sun. Do a thing— but just a little bit. Every day. And hey! 3/4 of summer is gone and I’m 3/4 the way through DuoLingo’s German program! The system works! Cool! … So why haven’t I been doing this with music?
So the new plan: organize by level of complexity, and complete each comlexity level accorss the board before moving on to the next step. This isn’t actually that rediculous, even if I have way too many songs I want to complete. See the actual recording end is the hardest part for me to do right now as I just don’t have an environment quiet enough to set up mics and get clean results, and I also still need to work on the details of the vocals. BUT! There is a lot that is digital/virtual and no I don’t find useing midi piano in a recording cheating. So basically I can get everything except the vocals (and some guitar) set up and sounding awesome, then move on to doing vocals, which could go song by song, or be one awesome, epic weekend. …Or tomorrow. Honestly it depends on the wind and how I’m feeling. Either way, there are now already a bunch of projects in existence that were previously just sheet music.
